Jessica interview with The Bottom Line "On Her Own"

Here's an interview Jessica did recently with The Bottom Line where she discusses leaving PCD and when her album might be out! Have a look

Even after all these years in the international arena, Jessica Sutta still loves the club. If she’s lucky, no one recognizes her. Then the former Pussycat Doll becomes just another dancer on the floor, lost in the beat. Jessica stepped out from the shadow of the band that made her famous when she released “Show Me,” last summer. If you love to dance, you’ll want to pay attention.
Produced by busbee (Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum), “Show Me” explodes with shuffle-fueled energy, reaffirming Jessica as the soulful vocalist she’s always been.
Since bursting on the global pop scene with the Pussycat Dolls in 2003, Jessica built a reputation as a fan favorite, the sexy glamour icon with a heart of gold. She’s all that and more. Her years with the Dolls made Jessica a star, but also taught her valuable lessons.
She also says the jolt of worldwide fame, and the demands on her time led her to a crossroads moment.
She has always taken seriously the concept of giving back. While in the Pussycat Dolls, she traveled to India to work with New Possibilities, a charity that helps lift young Indians out of poverty. She has also worked to support marriage equality, and counts her gay fans among her favorites. “That’s something I want to stand up for,” she says. “If it’s all about you, it’s just an ego thing.”
I got a chance to talk to Jessica over the phone in anticipation of her pulling double duty – she’s set to perform at both the Dinah and White Party in 2012!

The BottomLine: Is there a different vibe when you perform for the girls then when you perform for the guys?

I don’t know if there is a different vibe. I haven’t performed by myself; I have all girl dancers with me so I’m sure that will be a different vibe and for the Dinah Shore audience. I’m sure it’s going to be fun. And for the White Party I have an all my cute boys. I guess it’s all the same.

“Show Me,” the video, is so sexy, very hot. I might be touching on personal thing… but have you ever taken a walk on our side of the street?

[Big laugh]. The girl side? Let’s just say I’m very open minded, let’s put it that way.

How does it feel to be flying solo? I know Pussy Cat Dolls broke up awhile ago, but is it freeing to be doing just what you want to do?

It is very freeing. At first it was a little scary. It was difficult to leave the band. Everyone was, “You are crazy.” I knew what I wanted to do with my career and that was to be a total artist. It’s been wonderful and I can voice my opinion and it’s about what I want in my life, and how I want my voice to be heard in the community. It’s been an amazing experience so far. I miss the girls though.

Was it a bitter breakup or are you cordial? Do you have a bit of a rivalry with Nicole?

No, it was a pretty clean breakup and everybody knew the time was up. We had a great run at seven years. I still keep in touch with the girls and we’re all good friends. Everyone is doing great things. We experienced so much together, I’ll always love them. They’re like sisters to me.

Any chance the Pussy Cat Dolls will do a reunion tour?

I would love to do it, I don’t know when, but I hope it happens.

I know a lot of people would love that to happen too. You are really making a name for yourself in the dance music – “Show Me” getting to number one. You working with Dave Audé, he’s a mixing God. Who would you like to work with next as a mixer? Do you have a wish list?

Calvin Harris, I think he is really taking over. I love his sound. My favorite song is “Feel So Close To You.” I’m such a huge fan. I was playing it before it was popular. I’d love to work with him.

Are you looking forward to the day when your name doesn’t include former Pussy Cat Doll? When it’s just Jessica Sutta?

Yeah, it would definitely be great to be known on my own.

Well, that day is definitely coming. How do you get in touch with your creative side? Is there a zone you get into? Or a muse that hits?

Well, my muse comes out at 3 am sometimes, which is a little annoying at times. I’ll want to write or sing or I’ll just start dancing around my house.
I think as an artist I like writing, to be really honest, to take that guard up and dig deep into your soul [to find] exactly how you feel. That’s why I like writing when you are sad – it’s like bleeding on the paper. Or you are happy. Or in love and express it and it feels so good to do it to music.

Have you always known you were going to do this? Did you come out of the chute dancing and singing?

I always knew I was going to do be a performer. I used to perform for my family when I was 3 years old. I had this little part of the house that looked like a stage. I drove everyone crazy.

You have an album coming up, Sutta Pop. When’s that going to drop?

Well, we’re shooting for September. Right now I’m in the studio working on it. Hopefully, a single by this summer.

Now for the most annoying interview question asked – what’s next for you?

Well, I have a lot of prides coming up. Of course, the Dinah Shore and White Party and I’m really excited about that. I’m also doing LA pride, Miami pride, etc. I’m going all around the country visiting everyone and to let people get to know who I am – and get my voice out there about equality. I think my next plan is to take over and help, and be of service and inspire.
